About AASRA

Way back in April of 1977, the original founders of our Association, felt a need to bind amputees together to help one another.
Their mission was outlined when we received our Society Act incorporation:

"To bind together in a spirit of a fraternity, all persons who are without a limb (s), or part thereof, from any cause"

They further went on to outline such things as:

  • Providing for the recreation of members

  • Affording members the opportunity for friendly and social activities

  • Encouraging and promoting amateur games and exercises

  • Providing a meeting place (if possible)

  • Carrying on discussions of general interest to amputees

  • Establishing a reading library

However, like all things, times have changed, and so has the mandate of our Association over the past number of years.

Our Association is alive and well.  We continue to seek out and get new members interested in joining together in a spirit of fraternity and helping one another. Visits and phone calls to new amputees, continues to increase as an awareness of our association is growing in all of the hospitals, physiotherapy departments and doctor's offices. Interest in some amputee sports has declined - in others (such as golf) it continues to grow daily.

If you know of one other amputee, who is not already a member of our Association, why not speak to them and encourage them to join us? Their input, their ideas, their goals and their support is very welcome. They may not feel that they need support, but maybe they can BE support for someone else
